Video: Meet Maria Pepe and the Hoboken Young Democrats

When 11-year old pitcher Maria Pepe joined her Little League squad in 1972, after having tried out and made the team, she did not expect to become a history-making barrier breaker.

After playing just three games she was forced to turn in her uniform, as Little League had a rule against girls playing "under any circumstances".  When the New Jersey Superior Court ruled in her favor two years later, Maria was too old to play. But her experience, and the legal decision that resulted paved the way for thousands of girls to play Little League baseball.

Ebbets Field Flannels is proud to present - with her permission - a reproduction of Maria's jersey, complete with her #9 on the back, along with her cap and a t-shirt they created from the team's logo.
